Associate Professor Adrian Wiegmans

(BSc, PhD (HONS), Grad Dip Biotech) .

I am a research scientist who has worked on cancer for over 25 years and breast cancer for the last 10 years. My wife Elisa was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer in 2018 and even as an expert in the field the reality of a breast cancer diagnosis was a shock. Speaking to many breast cancer patients, I found there is a necessity for clear and easy to understand information provided in a calm and reassuring environment. A merging of skills between my wife and I led us to concept of “The Wellness Bus”. As part of my role I will use my expertise as a “Medical Translator” for any questions relating to all aspects of your cancer journey.

(BSc, Masters App Sci (Acupuncture)

I discovered the healing power of acupuncture for back pain, after a 20-year career in medical research. Intrigued by Chinese medicine’s effective and holistic approach to healing, I completed a Masters Degree of Acupuncture in 2010 and am a registered practitioner with the Australian Natural Therapists Association (ANTA) and Australia Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Association (AACMA). I view health and wellbeing with both western knowledge and eastern philosophy. I believe Chinese Medicine and acupuncture are a gentler way to not only treat immediate symptoms of therapeutic side effects but also help bring calmness to help the body heal.

Acupuncture is beneficial for the relief of pain associated with arthritis/ osteoporosis, can enhance circulation, and stimulate immune response for cardiovascular disease and assist in side effects associated with treatment of myeloproliferative diseases.

I look forward to helping women who have or are currently going through the rigours of breast cancer treatment, I understand first-hand the journey they are on.
